NIGHT OF THE DEMON (1957)

Movie Review from ElCriticon-AlohaCriticon

Night Of The Demon / Curse Of The Demon is a horror’s masterpiece directed by Jacques Tourneur, the creator with Val Lewton of Cat People. He hypnotized us again with his subtle and suggestive touch in a penetrating story focused on satanism.

The movie is an adaptation of Montague R. James’ Casting The Ruins with a script by Charles Bennett and Hal E. Chester. It is a disturbing thriller with the engrossing sense of atmosphere that characterized all of the Tourneur’s works.

The highlight is the magnetic connection between antagonists played superbly by Dana Andrews and Niall MacGinnis, the latter uses a runic code to invoke a Beelzebub designed so that even now causes shock and fear in this period of excessive special effects.
