PEARL S. BUCK – THE GOOD EARTH

Book Review from ViajeLiterario-AlohaCriticon

Like other books of Pearl S. Buck, The Good Earth is a novel set in China and recounts the experiences of a family of farmers in the asian country.

It is narrated with the sensitive tact of the author, who describe with emotional closeness and depth the agrarian outlook of her adopted land, the convergence between the old and the new days, the position of the woman in the work and the family, and the struggle for survival in a complex environment with a well-defined central character: Wang Lung.

Buck, a great storyteller, achieves the difficult goal to transcend through a simple style.

This book, winner of Pulitzer Prize, is the first volume of a trilogy, completed by Sons and A House Divided.
