PETRONIUS – THE SATYRICON
Book Review from ViajeLiterario-AlohaCriticon
The Satyricon, book written by Petronius of which only fragments remain causing certain disjointed narrative, is an acrimonious and proto-picaresque journey through Ancient Rome showing the festive behavior with a cutting observation about the customs and morality of the period.
Accompanying the impotent Encolpius and his young lover Giton after a rite to Priapus, mythological god in constant erection, we are witness of scenes with sexuality, social corruption and hedonism in a witty satire in Nero’s time. A vitriolic story that can be easily work with contemporary characters.
